2020 Collector’s Badge – Afghanistan Rejoins WOSM
$100.00
Each #171 Collector’s Badge puts an Afghan Scout in uniform.
In January 2020, after over a decade of perseverance by a dedicated team of Scout enthusiasts, Afghanistan was once again admitted to the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) as the #171st member country. The Scout movement in Afghanistan goes back to 1931, however Afghanistan lost its membership to World Scouting after subsequent conflicts that started in 1979.
Since then, it has been the dream of Afghan Scout Masters to have Afghanistan once again become a part of the international movement of 52 million youth members. Ten years ago, PARSA accepted the challenge of supporting the development of a national Afghan Scouts program. We started with two Scout troops in a local orphanage and $1500. Today, with 11,000 youth participating and in strong partnership with the Ministry of Education, the Afghan Scouts has been acknowledged nationally and internationally as an impactful volunteer-led youth movement.
Many of the youth who participate in PARSA’s Afghan Scouts program are orphans or come from impoverished backgrounds. PARSA supports program costs including uniforms, training activities, and community service through grassroots fundraising and grants. This year, our goal is to purchase 200 uniforms for new Scouts, at a cost of $30 each. Every badge ordered purchases a uniform for an Afghan Scout. We are grateful for your support.
Please note: All Afghan Scout badges are made locally in Kabul, Afghanistan and are shipped from within North America.
