The Mission of Afghan Scouting

The mission of the Afghan Scout Movement is to contribute to the education and development of young people through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law; to encourage the growth of self-esteem and fulfillment in individual Scouts; and to play a constructive role in the future of Afghanistan by developing strong leadership skills in Afghan youth.

Who are the Afghan Scouts?

The Afghan Scouts are a diverse group of ambitious and enthusiastic leaders and future leaders who have come together to create the Scouting Movement in Afghanistan. Our goals are to give Afghan boys and girls the tools they need to become happy, healthy and useful citizens, as well as the motivation they need to become leaders in their communities and create positive change in their country.

Afghan Scouting Means:

Education for Life: Scouting complements learning experiences gained from school and family life and also provides opportunities not found in either. This is especially true in Afghanistan where family lives are often affected by conflict and public education is too often unavailable or underfunded. The Afghan Scouts focuses on instilling self-knowledge and the need to explore, to discover, and to thirst for knowledge and experiences. This sets our Afghan Scouts on the trail to becoming well-rounded adults who are able to think for themselves.

Fun with a Purpose: Through recreation, Scouting achieves its purpose of helping young people develop physically, intellectually, emotionally, and socially. Scouting is about building confidence and self-esteem, learning leadership skills, team building, and of course fun and adventure! Scouts learn to make good choices, question their surroundings, and take responsibility for their actions. These skills are essential in the Afghan leaders of tomorrow.

Worldwide Connection: In a country like Afghanistan where there are so few lines of connection to the outside world, the links made through Scouting are vital. There are Scout associations and branches in more than 216 countries around the world, with more than 40 million active Scouts. Links made with Scout troops around the world give our youth an understanding of what goes on beyond Afghanistan’s borders. And while Scouting is adapted to local needs and culture, its Purpose, Principles and Methods are the same worldwide.
